Thurston Moore Preps New Memoir 'Sonic Life' for 2023 Release
Former Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore is writing a memoir about his life and career. Called Sonic Life, the book is set to hit shelves in 2023 via Faber.
Moore previously confirmed the book in several interviews, including one with Vulture last year. He mentioned he’d begun essaying about his coming of age in New York, living in the ‘70s, and creating Sonic Youth at the start of the ’80s. “This downtime period allowed me to do this, so I have this manuscript called Sonic Life that I probably will publish at some point in 2021,” he said at the time.
According to The Bookseller, the official synopsis for the memoir states: “From his infatuation and engagement with the Seventies punk and ‘no wave’ scenes in New York City to the 1981 formation of his legendary rock group to 30 years of relentless recording, touring, and musical experimentation, birthing the Nirvana-era of alternative rock, and beyond, it is all told via the personal prism of the author’s intensive archives and research.”
Moore now lives in London. In February, he released a surprise instrumental album on Bandcamp called Screen Time. Before that, his seventh solo album By the Fire was released last fall. In 2020, he also participated in a series of Galaxie 500 covers, recording his take on “Another Day.”
