Watch Two New Clips from 'Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road' Documentary
Two new clips have been released from Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road, a documentary film about The Beach Boys co-founder. Directed by Brent Wilson (no relation to Brian), the documentary takes a look at the artist's life and career through “a literal and metaphorical trip exploring Brian’s hometown.”
In the first clip, several musicians praise Brian for his work ethic. Elton John in particular discusses Wilson’s commitment to touring. “Brian will always wanna go out and perform," he says. "He will always wanna make records. It’s because music runs through his veins.” The second clip finds Wilson praise the track "Sail On, Sailor" as “probably one of the best songs I ever wrote.”
The documentary also sees appearances from Bruce Springsteen, Nick Jonas, Linda Perry, Jim James, Gustavo Dudamel, Jakob Dylan, Steven Page, Taylor Hawkins, Al Jardin, Bob Gaudio, Don Was, Blondie Chaplin, Stephen Kalinich, and Andy Paley. A new original song from Wilson, "Right Where I Belong," is featured in the film. He co-wrote the track with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James.
Aside from the original track, the doc includes over 50 of Wilson’s most beloved hits, never-before-heard tracks and demos, and rare clips from Wilson's personal home movies and photo albums.
The documentary originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2021 to positive reviews. It even has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road is currently playing in U.K. cinemas. It had a short theatrical run in the United States back in November, and is now available to stream. You can watch it on YouTube, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, Vudu, and Amazon Prime Video.
