Kevin Abstract Announces First Solo Album Since BROCKHAMPTON's Split
BROCKHAMPTON founder Kevin Abstract has formally announced a new solo album since the rap collective's split/indefinite hiatus. It's called Blanket and is due November 3.
His follow-up to the 2019 album Arizona Baby features the title track, which arrived with the below self-directed video last week. He's also released the preview of a song called "GUM," a video teaser titled "SLEEPOVER," and the cover art for the LP. Abstract first started teasing a new album around mid-September, when he wiped his Instagram clean and posted a photo of himself wearing a creepy mask.
Abstract made Blanket with producer and fellow former BROCKHAMPTON member Romil Hemnani. The multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham also contributed to the project. “I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” Abstract explained in a press release. “But I wanted it to hit like a rap album.”

Last year, BROCKHAMPTON announced an indefinite hiatus that began after a Coachella performance and the release of their albums The Family and TM. Both albums were released back-to-back in an effort to reach the group's contractual obligation to RCA; in 2018, they signed a $15 million deal to produce six albums over three years.
Since Arizona Baby, Abstract has released the singles “Slugger” and “Sierra Nights.” As for other BROCKHAMPTON members and their solo endeavors, Merlyn Wood recently released an EP called Dirty Thunder. Dom McLennon shared the solo“Sweep” in September, and now has a Skillshare course on music production.
