Red Hot Chili Peppers Tease 2022 International Stadium Tour in Comedic News Report

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are back and preparing for a 2022 world tour. The rock band revealed on Friday (Sept. 24) that they have teamed up with promoter Live Nation for a 2022 global stadium tour.

Dates, ticket information, and supporting acts are to be announced. In the meantime, RHCP released a comedic skit to tease the tour. It's a parody news promo video from imaginary station KHOT. In the clip, singer Anthony Kiedis - aka Johnson Hammerswaddle - anchors the fictional station alongside bassist Flea (Todd the Squirrel). Drummer Chad Smith also makes an appearance as mellow weatherman Randy Raindrops.

Eventually guitarist John Frusciante appears as himself to announce the tour news, and the whole studio goes wild. According to Frusciante, the world tour will kick off in June 2022 while the U.S. leg of the tour will happen in July.

This is the band's first tour since Frusciante returned to the group. After relieving guitarist Josh Klinghoffer of his duties in 2019 following a decade of service, the rock band's upcoming tour will feature Kiedis, Flea, and Smith once again jamming with three-time member Frusciante. He first joined RHCP in 1988. He then split from the group in 1992, rejoined in 1998 and left again in 2009, rejoining once more in 2019. Although Frusciante has performed some more recent shows with RHCP, this tour will mark his first tour with the band in 15 years.

Red Hot Chili Peppers released their 11th studio album The Getaway in 2016. Chad Smith hinted in 2020 that the band was working on a new collection of songs, making it likely their 12th studio album will drop before the world tour.

While tour tickets are not yet on sale, you can sign up for early access to tickets via the Red Hot Chili Peppers' website.
