Watch Teaser for The Weeknd's New HBO Max Show 'The Idol'

It's finally here! The Weeknd and Sam Levinson (creator of HBO's Euphoria), have a dropped a sneak peak of what to expect in their upcoming HBO Max show The Idol. It stars Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, and Abel Tesfaye himself.

The Idol follows a female pop singer (Depp) as she becomes romantically involved with a Los Angeles club owner and cult leader (Tesfaye). The teaser claims the show is “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood.” Some commenters on social media even compare the feel of it to Gaspar Noé's 2018 dance horror flick Climax – which, like The Idol, is also part of A24's catalogue.

In addition to The Weeknd and Levinson, The Idol was co-created by The Weeknd’s producing partner, Reza Fahim. Besides Depp, Tesfaye, and Sivan, the cast includes TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Blackpink’s Jennie, Anne Heche, Melanie Liburd, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Hari Nef, and Nico Hiraga.

An official release date for the series has not been announced, but the teaser indicates it’s “coming soon.” The show has been in development since at least June of last year, when it was first publicly announced The Weeknd was creating a HBO show.

As for other The Weeknd news, he is currently on the road for his 2022 North American tour in support of Dawn FM. Earlier this year, he headlined the final night of Coachella with Swedish House Mafia.
