The mission of The Checkerboard Lounge is to maintain the culture of traditional instrumentation and vocalized music. The Checkerboard Lounge’s format is primarily marketed to a mature urban audience and consist of downtempo classic and contemporary R&B music that accompanies, many urban partnered dance styles, such as Kansas City, Two-Step, Detroit Ballroom and Chicago Stepping. We like to call this type of mellow, mid tempo music “Inner City Blues“ in honor of the song by singer, Marvin Gaye which incorporates a similar tempo and vibe.
